Project Superintendent

OVERVIEW:
Kasco is an employee owned, Michigan-based General Contractor and Construction Manager with offices in Royal Oak, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids. Since 1989 we have continually grown while building lasting relationships and completing significant projects in diversified markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Plan, direct, manage, oversee, and log all daily activities on the project site, reporting to management as necessary
- Manage a team of workers (laborers, subcontractors, etc.), work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation
- Upload and maintain all company and project related documentation including, but not limited to, daily logs, daily photographs, manpower reports, progress plan, etc. in Procore and other appropriate company platforms
- Create cost estimates for labor, supplies, materials, and other project costs
- Recognize when Change Orders may be necessary and notify PMs to determine further steps
- Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines
- Implement and enforce the company’s and owner’s site policies, safety programs, and always promote a safety climate on the site
- Assist with initiation of job site set-up, including mobilization of trailer and set-up of field processes
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Field experience in the commercial construction industry
- Advanced understanding of construction operations, principles, practices and methods, performance standards, environmental regulations, workplace safety, and union relations
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking, and active listening
- Knowledge of construction budgeting best practices
- Understanding of project document types including specifications, plans, submittals, subcontracts, shop drawing, and any other project specific documents
- Ability to comprehend construction drawings in multiple construction, trade, and engineering disciplines
- Understanding and experience in working on various project sizes and types
- Preferred experience in healthcare construction and familiarity with special requirements
- Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, and structural systems
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements and how to successfully execute an OSHA site visit
- Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operation practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Good planning skills, including design execution, resources allocation and contingencies
- In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal construction regulations
- Great problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Effective leadership abilities, like motivation, goal setting, and conflict management
- Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization, and multitasking
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, PowerPoint), outlook, and related construction software (Procore)
- Ability to maintain order and composure when faced with hazardous and stressful situations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or another relevant discipline
- Previous managerial experience on a construction team
- Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Industrial, Multi-Family, Senior Living, Religious, Medical Tech market experience
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites
- Knowledge of skidsteer, loader, excavator, and dozer operation
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Travel locally or relocate based on project location
- Exposure to all elements of the outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.)
- Possible exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures when working
- Possible exposure to sound and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
- Possible exposure to contaminants and other hazardous equipment and situations
- Possible risk for mild – severe injury
- Physical ability to manage and access all areas of the job site (stairs, scaffolding, ladders, elevation changes, etc.)
- Capable of working in physical positions which include kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting over, etc.

Overview:

Carpenter: Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Able to follow plans and specifications provided by architects and engineers.
- General project layout.
- Metal stud framing.
- Doors, frames, and hardware.
- Drywall and finishing.
- Acoustical ceilings.
- Rough carpentry.
- Finish and trim carpentry.
- Millwork.
- Measurement and material ordering as required.
Qualified candidates will possess the following requirements:
- Self-motivated.
- Team oriented.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Knowledge and application of MIOSHA/OHSA Safety Practices.
- Healthcare construction experience a plus.
